How It Works


Roommate Referrals sincerely hopes to help you find a roommate! We strive to match our clients based upon each person's individual needs and lifestyles. Please take note of the following Roommate Referrals policies and procedures so that you may better understand and take full advantage of our service. Once again, thank you for using Roommate Referrals!

Future service: Please call Roommate Referrals when you have found a roommate, need your application changed, or have any questions. We are here to serve you!

1. After completing your application with us at Roommate Referrals, your information will be entered into our main computer for processing. The information will be compared with all of our active clients, and compatibility will be measured based on your preferences for: situation, location, rent amount, gender, lifestyle, age, children, smoking, and pets.

2. Your matches will be based on your preferences, and we will
consult with you to ensure you get as many matches as possible. Our goal is to help you find a roommate!

3. Call all of your matches.  Once you receive your list of matches from Roommate Referrals, it is your responsibility to call them. They are anxious to hear from you, but they won't get a chance to know you until you call them. Be persistent! Speak with them personally. When you reach your prospective roommate, tell them you have been referred by Roommate Referrals. Please notify us immediately if you receive any incorrect telephone numbers so we can make the necessary corrections to our records.

4.  Keep current with new matches.  Sign in anytime to view your matches and/or update your own information.  Your matches will come from either new clients or existing clients who have changed their applications.

5. Make an appointment to meet your prospective roommate.  As a courtesy, please let them know if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. To ensure you both feel as comfortable as possible, we suggest first meeting your prospective roommate in a neutral location.

* Please note: Our goal is to provide you with as many matches as possible that are close to what you would accept in a roommate. This way, you have the final choice. You may like enough of what you see and hear to consider someone as a roommate. We have found that variables such as rent and age can be highly negotiable.

6. Reference checks:  Each client will list several references on his/her application. We encourage you to check references before making a final roommate selection.

7. Inactive matches:  Please report any inactive matches. If a client has an incorrect telephone number or is impossible to reach, please leave that information on our online system or call our office at 612-827-5565.

8. Continuing client procedures:  You will continue to be matched with all active clients up to 2 full months, or until you notify us that you have found a roommate.

9. We are here to help you find a roommate! Your success is our success! Please call our office directly if you would like to change any information on your application or if you have questions, problems or suggestions.

10. Match update mail and fax services:  Upon request, we will be glad to mail (or FAX) you a hard copy report. You may receive: a) your new matches, or b) all matches still active. There is no charge for this new listing; however, please allow 1-2 days for mailing.

11. When you have found a roommate:  Please contact us as soon as possible by calling (612) 827-5565 or (800) 949-7056, or provide the information via our online system.  This way, we can keep our computer files accurate and current for future clients. This also ensures your roommate service guarantee.

60/120-day Roommate Guarantee:  Because we have found our roommate matches to last longer than those found through other sources, Roommate Referrals offers a 4-month service guarantee if you choose a roommate that we have referred to you. If you happen to find a roommate on your own through any other source, we will give you a 2-month service guarantee. Service will then be provided for the remainder of your 2-month contract.

To validate your guarantee, it is your responsibility to notify us when you have found a roommate. PLEASE REMEMBER YOU WILL INVALIDATE YOUR GUARANTEE IF ANY OTHER CLIENT FIRST REPORTS YOU AS INACTIVE, OR WE LEARN THAT YOU NO LONGER NEED A ROOMMATE.

Each guarantee is limited to one (1) free period of service reactivation.
